A running shoes (Asics Shoes) is designed to cradle the foot, and not just protect it from the pounding, but to optimize a runner’s gait in such a way that a person can run longer and faster without worrying about injury. At its most basic, a running shoe is made up of an outsole, midsole and upper. The outsole is the bottom of the shoe, that durable slab of rubber providing traction throughout the gait cycle. The midsole rests atop the outsole, and provides cushioning and stability. The upper is generally made of mesh, synthetic fabrics or leather, and cocoons the foot.

Just as every run is unique, so every running shoe is designed for a specific type of runner. When selecting a running shoe, take into account the frequency of your training and your performance level. A shoe should fit comfortably and snug, but should not be so tight that your toes press against the front of the shoe or the top of your foot aches from the laces being too tight. If you run a great deal, it might be a good idea to look for a shoe that features the GEL® Cushioning System in the heel and forefoot.

Also, be aware of your gait. The three broad categories that define running shoes — Cushioning, Structured Cushioning, and Maximum Support — enhance gait by working with the natural movement of your foot, providing a more efficient stride. How you pronate plays a great part in a shoe’s ability to enhance your running experience. Pronation is a normal, natural rolling motion that helps to attenuate shock. Some runners find that their foot does not roll all the way in, making the foot work harder to push off properly. This is known as underpronation (or supination). Conversely, a foot that rolls inward too much in known as overpronation. Runners who underpronate (or, supinate) would feel more comfortable with a Cushioning shoe. Overpronators do better with Maximum Support, and those with a more neutral stride would do well with Structured Cushioning.

Products in the Structured Cushioning segment are designed for runners who pronate slightly more than normal and generally have a normal arch. Their foot strike takes place in a neutral to slightly pronated position, using the body’s natural pronation to attenuate shock. Structured Cushioning runners need their shoes to help control a small degree of overpronation, but they don’t need all the shock attenuation attributes of a Cushion segment shoe.
Cushioning
The Cushioning segment is designed to meet the needs of underpronators to mild overpronators and tend to have a high arch. This type of runner needs a great deal of shock attenuation because they don’t absorb shock naturally through pronation. Their foot either does not pronate at all, or pronates such a small amount that the body can’t attenuate shock in its natural manner. Instead of the body’s connective tissue absorbing shock through pronation, bones and joints take the brunt of the shock. It’s vital that shoes in the Cushioning segment attenuate as much initial impact shock as possible. An additional note: runners wearing Cushioning shoes tend have a rigid forefoot, thus requiring that the shoe be very flexible there.
Maximum Support
The Maximum Support category is designed for runners who tend to land in an overtly pronated position with a flat foot. Like the Cushion segment, these runners are not using all their body’s natural shock attenuation mechanisms. What makes them different is that these runners exhibit a large degree of pronation beginning with landing in a pronated state, then continuing past normal. Like the Structured Cushion segment, these runners need help to control the degree of pronation.
Trail
Designed to meet the needs of runners who prefer to take their run off-road. This category offers a range to suit most pronation ranges. Shoes may offer addtional features such as water resistant uppers and special tongue construction to help keep debris out.

Two years ago, Nike Inc. realized it needed to create a new retail concept to attract customers and solidify its position in the market. The museum-like NikeTown stores had been hugely successful in promoting the Nike brand, but their aggressive, larger-than-life ambience appeals primarily to men. Nike recognized it was missing opportunities to lure a huge segment of its target audience: women.

“We just weren’t communicating with her very well,” says John Hoke III, global creative director, Nike Brand. “We needed to extend the brand to that 51% of the population and establish a dialogue with all the female athletes out there.” NIKEgoddess, the new 6,000-sq.-ft. store at The Irvine Co.’s Fashion Island in Newport Beach, Calif., does just that.

Inspired by mid-20th century modern architecture and design — specifically the 1950s-era luxury homes of Palm Springs, Calif. — the store has a residential appeal, using pastel colors, interesting textures, and vignette merchandising to showcase Nike’s collection of athletic apparel and gear for women. “Our research shows that women aren’t as interested in that loud, in-your-face approach as men are,” notes Hoke. “She’s more interested in authenticity, so we created a scaled-down, welcoming place that’s really like a convergence of her home and a store.”

A ceramic-tile “runway” begins just inside the entrance and runs almost the entire depth of the space, drawing shoppers into the site. Flanked by mannequins and tables that hold featured products, the runway ends with a vertical backdrop that curves back toward the front of the store.

On either side of the walkway, the store has positioned two distinct merchandising personalities, says Hoke. The “warehouse” space features volume-driving, high-capacity fixtures. The “boutique” side showcases products in vignette style. “Here you’ll see a pair of yoga pants displayed with a potted orchid, a book on yoga, and a yoga mat,” explains Hoke. “We use display to tell a story about the product.”

Soothing pastel colors, wood and terrazzo flooring, and furniture-like fixturing reinforce the residential feel. “We tried to strike the word ‘fixture’ from our vocabulary,” says Hoke. “So instead we’ve got credenzas, wardrobers, and other pieces that look and feel like furniture.” Authentic mid-century modern chairs and other pieces are scattered throughout the store.

Nike developed the original architectural design in collaboration with Callison, Seattle. In January 2001, Nike opened a prototype store near its headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. Hoke’s staff then worked with Boora Architects of Portland to develop the Fashion Island store and a third store opening in Los Angeles next spring.

Boora’s role was to bring the NIKE-goddess concept to life while staying true to the original design intent, says Kevin Johnson, Boora principal. “The prototype is a 60-ft. by 60-ft. square with no columns, which is almost impossible to replicate,” he notes. In addition, the Fashion Island store is an exterior application rather than inside a mall. The store at this locale features a curved façade in contrast to the prototype’s straight one and incorporates colonnaded walkways and lower ceiling heights, as opposed to the prototype. With each new store, adds Johnson, “tweaks and adjustments have to be made to communicate the design concept.”

Thanks to Nike’s commitment to sustainability, Boora was also able to specify the most environmentally friendly materials possible, says Johnson. Low-VOC paints, recyclable gypsum board, and wood flooring certified by the Forest Stewardship Council were among the eco-friendly materials chosen. Epoxied-resin flooring originally specified for the runway was changed to a benign glass-mosaic tile. “Ultimately you have to balance aesthetics and cost-effectiveness,” says Johnson. “But in Nike we have a client who is willing to work toward the highest level of sustainability possible.”

While Hoke says the NIKEgoddess concept is still very much in the pilot phase, it was designed for rollout. “Our plan is to go to market with three or four test stores and fine-tune a point of view that lands with female customers,” he adds. “Down the road, we can potentially scale it.” More significant for Nike, he adds, is the new retail approach that is based on being more accessible to customers and more focused on their needs. “It’s a pretty major change in direction for us, and one that is resonating throughout our organization.”

Into the Blue is a 2005 film starring Paul Walker and Jessica Alba. It was directed by John Stockwell. The film was distributed in North America by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Columbia Pictures, and was distributed overseas by 20th Century Fox. This film is loosely based on the 1977 film The Deep which is based on Peter Benchley’s novel of the same name.
Jared (Paul Walker) and Sam (Jessica Alba) are two lovers living a rustic life in a trailer, next to the beach in the Bahamas. Sam works as a guide in the local aquatic theme park, “Atlantis”, and Jared has worked a number of odd jobs in his field of passion, diving. His real dream, though, is finding one of many merchant and pirate ships lost in the waters around the Bahamas, many of them with large amounts of gold on board.

Jared’s friend Bryce (Scott Caan) and his girlfriend Amanda (Ashley Scott) come to visit, as Bryce, a lawyer in New York City, has acquired the use of a luxury vacation house from a client he defended. While snorkeling, Jared comes across artifacts that seem to stem from a ship wreck. The four of them investigate and find several other pieces that turn out to be the remains of a legendary French pirate ship, lost as the pirate made his getaway.

This legendary shipwreck is rumored to contain millions in gold. The foursome, thinking their dreams of discovering buried treasure have finally come true, decide to investigate. While exploring it to try and stake their claim, they come across the remains of a crashed plane carrying a large quantity of cocaine. Bryce and Amanda are advocates of keeping the cocaine, while Jared and Sam oppose it. To avoid attracting attention to the location of their treasure find, Bryce and Amanda agree not to report the crashed plane and its illegal cargo until they have secured their claim on the sunken ship.

Jared and Bryce go to a local boat supplier, in order to make a deal for the equipment needed to retrieve the treasure, with Bryce funding the purchase. However, Jared soon finds out that Bryce, on a trip to Las Vegas, borrowed money from a loan shark and is in heavy debt and therefore is in no position to pay for anything.

Without Jared’s knowledge, Bryce and Amanda come up with a plan to retrieve some of the cocaine from the sunken plane and sell it to local night club owner Primo (Tyson Beckford). Unfortunately, Primo turns out to be an associate of drug lord Reyes (James Frain) to whom the cocaine belonged in the first place. Reyes, wanting his cocaine back, threatens Jared, Amanda and Bryce at gunpoint to bring him his cocaine or die.

Faced with this choice, Jared agrees to retrieve the cocaine. However, he tells Reyes that he will need $30,000 worth of non-refundable equipment to do so. This is not true, of course, and he uses the unfortunate situation to get to the gear he needs to salvage the Zephyr.

Back on land, the trio breaks the bad news to Sam, who is heartbroken that Jared would violate his principles and work for drug lords. He tries to convince her that it’s okay and that it’s a one-time thing, but she leaves him, saying that ‘they’ are over.

Jared, Bryce and Amanda head to sea. They start the night’s work by uncovering the site of the Zephyr, finding the ship’s bell with the name on it. For Jared, the victory feels hollow, though.

As they are moving the cocaine packs from the plane to their surface boat, Amanda is attacked by a tiger shark. She is brought to the hospital where she dies due to a huge bite out of her left leg. Hearing of the tragedy, Sam comes to the hospital and she and Jared are reunited. While driving back from the hospital, the trio (Jared, Sam and Bryce) are confronted by Primo at an intersection. A short, but intense car chase ends up with Jared leaving their truck and telling Bryce and Sam to meet him later. He surrenders to Primo and tried to get them to back off by offering them and their boss the loot on the Zephyr. Primo still takes him to Reyes’ boat. The boat looks deserted, so Primo tells Jared to lie down on the floor of the state room while he investigates. After some time, when Primo doesn’t return, Jared goes to explore. He finds Primo, Reyes and several others shot dead in one the bedrooms. Out from the toilet comes Bates (Josh Brolin), a local salvager and former employer of Jared’s. He asks Jared where “his cocaine” is and Jared bolts. He escapes from the boat and heads for shore.

Meanwhile, Sam insists on going to the police, so she goes to the private home of one of their friends, a local cop named Roy (Dwayne Adway). Bryce drops her off, but thinking they’ll get busted, heads off to meet Jared. Roy comforts Sam and tells her he knows a guy who can help, but that it has to be kept outside of the official channels, as he’s not sure who he can trust. Roy betrays Sam and takes her to Bates.

Jared and Bryce meet up and Jared calls Sam. Bates answers her cell phone and tells Jared to disclose the location of the cocaine. Jared insists that they meet and Jared show him to the location. Bryce and Jared then make a plan to settle the situation once and for all.

Jared is taken aboard Bates’ boat, the Sea Robin. Here he is shown Sam, who is in the engine room, handcuffed to the body of Roy, who was shot by Bates. The Sea Robin heads for the location where Jared directs them, but as they approach the area, they see a white substance floating on the surface. Jared tells Bates that it’s half of the cocaine, ruined, and that Jared will destroy the rest. He jumps into the water, and Bates and his men, after changing into Scuba gear, go after him.

Below the surface, in the plane, the divers look for Jared. Bryce has switched places with one of the dead pilots, and they use this to mount a surprise attack. An underwater struggle follows, killing all of Bates’ men and wounding Bryce.

Meanwhile, Sam finds a forgotten machete in the engine room and uses it to free herself from Roy’s body by cutting off his arm. She then severs a pipe, which brings one of Bates’ men down into the engine room, where she locks him in. She then goes up to the bridge to call for help. The man escapes from the engine room; a chase around the boat ends in a fight that Sam ultimately wins as they go into the water and the man, wounded by Sam with a boat hook, is attacked by another tiger shark.

Below, Jared and Bates are the only ones left. Jared uses an air tank as a missile by hammering off the valve. Bates escapes it, but as it hits the fuel tank at the back of the plane, it causes the entire plane to explode, killing Bates.

Sam jumps into the water, fearing for Jared’s life.

This segues into a scene six weeks later, where the trio is salvaging the Zephyr. After trying to bring an old cannon atop fails and the cannon sinks back down to the bottom, Sam and Jared call it a night. However, Bryce sees something in the water, uncovered as the cannon hit the wood of the wreck’s deck. He jumps in and dives down. As he comes back up he announces that he found the gold of the Zephyr.

Terry Ann “Teri” Garr (born December 11, 1944) is an American actress and comedienne.
Garr was born in Lakewood, Ohio. Her father, Eddie Garr (né Gonnoud), was a vaudeville performer, comedian and actor whose career peaked when he briefly took over the lead role in the Broadway drama Tobacco Road. Her mother, Phyllis Lind (née Emma Schmotzer), was a dancer, Rockette, wardrobe mistress, and model. Garr is a graduate of Magnificat High School, an all-girls Roman Catholic high school in Rocky River, Ohio.
Early in her career she was sometimes credited as Terri Garr, Terry Garr, Teri Hope, or Terry Carr. Garr’s movie debut was as an extra in 1963’s A Swingin’ Affair. She started out as a background dancer in uncredited roles for youth-oriented films like Pajama Party, a beach party film, and nine Elvis Presley features. Her first speaking role was a one-line appearance as a damsel in distress in The Monkees film Head written by Jack Nicholson. In 1974 she got her first significant film role in Francis Ford Coppola’s critically acclaimed The Conversation. She made her career breakthrough in the Mel Brooks hit comedy Young Frankenstein (1974). She then went on to appear in a string of highly successful films, often playing a housewife, in both comedies and dramas. Her most popular films include Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Oh, God! (1977), The Black Stallion (1979) and Mr. Mom (1983). In 1982 she was nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting role as Dustin Hoffman’s actress friend in Tootsie.

Since the late ’60s she has appeared frequently on television. She, along with friend Toni Basil, began as go-go dancers on several musical variety shows such as Shindig! and Hullabaloo. In 1967 Garr did two cameo appearances on Batman and a role on The Andy Griffith Show. In 1968 she was in two episodes of It Takes a Thief and a part in the Star Trek episode “Assignment: Earth”. This was a backdoor pilot for a proposed series in which she would have co-starred, but which didn’t sell.

In the early ’70s she was a regular cast member on The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour dancing and acting in comedy sketches. She also had a recurring role as a ditzy policewoman on McCloud, and appeared on M*A*S*H, The Bob Newhart Show, and Barnaby Jones, among others. She hosted Saturday Night Live in 1980, 1983, and 1985 and was a frequent visitor on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. As a recurring guest on Late Night with David Letterman, she was renowned for her unscripted banter with personal friend David Letterman, who once goaded her into showering in his office while the camera rolled. She landed a role as recurring character Phoebe Buffay Sr. in Friends, playing the estranged birth mother of Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), to whom she bears a striking resembalence.

For over four decades, she has appeared in a variety of television commercials, including a 1970 Safeguard ad with then-unknowns Penny Marshall and Tom Selleck. Often complaining on talk shows about being typecast in housewife roles, she nonetheless used her image to promote many household products (coffee, Band-Aid, Glade air-fresheners, etc.) in countless commercials over the years. In the 1990s she did a series of TV and print ads for Fruit of the Loom underwear and New York radio station WTLW 106.7 Lite FM.
Garr said that in 1990 a woman called her at around 4:30 A.M. telling Garr that she slept with Garr’s boyfriend. An enraged Garr drove to her ex-boyfriend’s house and smashed the windows. The ex-boyfriend called the police, who left after Garr talked to them. Police never filed charges against Garr.

In October 2002, Garr made it public that she has multiple sclerosis. After years of uncertainty and secrecy surrounding her diagnosis, Garr explained her reasons for deciding to go public: “I’m telling my story for the first time, so I can help people. I can help people know they aren’t alone, and tell them there are reasons to be optimistic because today treatment options are available”. It is unclear exactly how long she has had the condition; in 2002, she told Larry King that she’d had it for 19 years, but in 2005, while promoting her book, she said she’s had it for 25 years. That sets the date of onset to sometime between 1980 and 1983. In more recent interviews, she has clarified that she first started noticing symptoms while in New York filming Tootsie, but she didn’t know what caused her symptoms. For the next few years, as acting jobs brought her to various locations around the world, she continued to see different doctors in different cities, until she finally found a doctor that correctly diagnosed her as having MS. Today, she uses an Amigo POV/scooter when necessary.

Since Garr announced that she has MS, she has become a leading advocate in raising awareness for the condition and the latest treatments for it. She is a National Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and National Chair for the Society’s Women Against MS program (WAMS).WAMS is a nationwide education and fundraising program that helps to increase the public’s awareness of MS and the National MS Society while acknowledging and encouraging the advancement of women philanthropists. In November 2005, Garr was honored as the society’s Ambassador of the Year. This honor had been given only four times since the society was founded.

She is the mother of an adopted daughter and resides in Los Angeles. On December 21, 2006, she suffered a brain aneurysm in her Los Angeles area home; her 13-year-old daughter called for help when she couldn’t get her to wake up. Following surgery, her publicist Heidi Schaeffer said she expected Garr to make a full recovery. She appeared on Late Show with David Letterman on June 19, 2008, clearly suffering the physical effects of her MS and aneurysm, but still as sharp and funny as ever. She was on the show to promote Expired, a movie in which she plays twins.

Garr sold her Los Angeles-area house in June 2008.

The vagus nerve is the longest of the cranial nerve. Its name is derived from Latin meaning “wandering”. True to its name the vagus nerve wanders from the brain stem through organs in the neck, thorax and abdomen. The nerve exits the brain stem through rootlets in the medulla that are caudal to the rootlets for the ninth cranial nerve. The rootlets form the tenth cranial nerve and exit the cranium via the jugular foramen. Similar to the ninth cranial nerve there are two sensory ganglia associated with the vagus nerve. They are the superior and inferior vagal ganglia. The branchial motor component of the vagus nerve originates in the medulla in the nucleus ambiguus. The nucleus ambiguus contributes to the vagus nerve as three major branches which leave the nerve distal to the jugular foramen. The pharyngeal branch travels between the internal and external carotid arteries and enters the pharynx at the upper border of the middle constrictor muscle. It supplies the all the muscles of the pharynx and soft palate except the stylopharyngeas and tensor palati. These include the three constrictor muscles, levator veli palatini, salpingopharyngeus, palatopharyngeus and palatoglossal muscles. The superior laryngeal nerve branches distal to the pharyngeal branch and descends lateral to the pharynx. It divides into an internal and external branch. The internal branch is purely sensory and will be discussed later. The external branch travel to the cricothyroid muscle which it supplies. The third branch is the recurrent branch of the vagus nerve and it travels a different path on the left and right sides of the body. On the right side the recurrent branch leave the vagus anterior to the subclavian artery and wraps back around the artery to ascend posterior to it. The right recurrent branch ascends to a groove between the trachea and esophagus. The left recurrent branch leaves the vagus nerve on the aortic arch and loops posterior to the arch to ascend through the superior mediastinum. The left recurrent branch ascends along a groove between the esophagus and trachea. Both recurrent branches enter the larynx below the inferior constrictor and supply intrinsic muscles of larynx excluding the cricothyroid. The visceromotor or parasympathetic component of the vagus nerve originates from the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus in the dorsal medulla. These cells give rise to axons that travel in the vagus nerve. The visceromotor part of the vagus innervates ganglionic neurons which are located in or adjacent to each target organ. The target organs in the head-neck include glands of the pharynx and larynx (via the pharyngeal and internal branches). In the thorax branches go to the lungs for bronchoconstriction, the esophagus for peristalsis and the heart for slowing of heart rate. In the abdomen branches enter the stomach, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine and colon for secretion and constriction of smooth muscle. The viscerosensory component of the vagus are derived from nerves that have receptors in the abdominal viscera, esophagus, heart and aortic arch, lungs, bronchia and trachea. Nerves in the abdomen and thorax join the left and right vagus nerves to ascend beside the left and right common carotid arteries. Sensation from the mucous membranes of the epiglottis, base of the tongue, aryepiglottic folds and the upper larynx travel via the internal laryngeal nerve. Sensation below the vocal folds of the larynx is carried by the recurrent laryngeal nerves. The cell bodies that give rise to the peripheral processes of the visceral sensory nerves of the vagus are located in the inferior vagal ganglion. The central process exits the ganglion and enters the brain stem to terminate in the nucleus solitarius. The general sensory components of the tenth cranial nerve conduct sensation from the larynx, pharynx, skin the external ear and external auditory canal, external surface of the tympanic membrane, and the meninges of the posterior cranial fossa. Sensation from the larynx travels via the recurrent laryngeal and internal branches of the vagus to reach the inferior vagal ganglion. Sensory nerve fibers from the skin and tympanic membrane travel with auricular branch of the vagus to reach the superior vagal ganglion. The central processes from both ganglia enter the medulla and terminate in the nucleus of the spinal trigeminal tract.

His hopes for fundamental reform to America’s troubled health-care system endangered by a revolt from within his own party, Barack Obama Wednesday night staked his presidency on an ultimatum.

Americans “are looking to us for leadership, and we must not let them down,” the President vowed in a prime-time press conference.

“We will pass reform that lowers cost, promotes choice, and provides coverage that every American can count on. And we will do it this year.”

With that stark declaration, Mr. Obama threw down a gauntlet to his Republican opponents and to nervous Democrats worried about what reform might cost.

With opposition growing and Mr. Obama’s popularity slipping, hopes that legislation could be passed before Congress rises for its August vacation at the end of next week are fading.

By nonetheless imposing an end-of-year deadline for final passage of a bill, the President is gambling all of his political capital on success. If the year passes without his signature on a bill, the political costs of such failure will be enormous.

Negotiations to craft a reform bill have been complicated by so-called Blue Dog Democrats in the House of Representatives. They are alarmed at projections from the Congressional Budget Office that the current plan would increase the deficit by $239-billion (U.S) over 10 years, the very opposite of the administration’s goal of expanding coverage while reining in spiralling expenses.

Conservative Democrats in the House energy and commerce committee are holding up passage of the bill until their cost concerns are met.

Representatives and senators, especially those in the Senate finance committee, are negotiating non-stop in an effort to craft legislation that extends benefits without increasing costs.

Dick Durbin, Senate Majority Whip, predicted Wednesday that the Senate would fail to pass legislation before the August break. “We’re going to take a little longer to get it right,” he told The Hill newspaper.

By nonetheless imposing an end-of-year deadline, Mr. Obama is warning Congress that it can talk, but it must also ultimately act.

“If you don’t set deadlines in this town, things don’t happen,” he told reporters. “The default position is inertia, because doing something always creates some people who are unhappy.” But he maintained, “The stars are aligned and we need to take advantage of that.”

At the heart of Mr. Obama’s proposal is a public health-insurance program that would compete with private insurers and that would, in theory, drive down costs over time.

The Republican opposition in Congress has warned that people would be forced out of their existing plans and into some statist monstrosity (the word “Canadian” is often invoked) in which faceless bureaucrats decide what treatments patients would receive.

“If they try to fix our health-care system like they’ve tried to rescue our economy, I think we’re in really, really big trouble,” House Minority Leader John Boehner told reporters Wednesday.

The GOP attacks are working. The President’s approval rating has dropped to 55 per cent, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll, down from 64 per cent in late May and early June.

Although half of those polled approve of Mr. Obama’s handling of health care, 43 per cent disapprove, a number that has risen sharply since April.

In response, the president reminded his critics of the 47 million Americans who have no coverage at all, of the millions more whose coverage is inadequate.

“This is about every family, every business and every taxpayer who continues to shoulder the burden of a problem that Washington has failed to solve for decades,” he said.

Beyond the question of the legislation itself is the question of Mr. Obama’s political skills. By imposing a no-excuses deadline, the President has gambled that he can manage congressional opposition from Republicans and from members within his own party.

If he fails, and health-care legislation does go down in defeat, the President’s agenda on the environment, immigration and education will lie in shambles.

Earlier this week and again Wednesday night, Mr. Obama quoted Republican Senator Jim DeMint, who said, “If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.”

But though some conservative commentators are predicting that Congress will never pass a bill Mr. Obama can sign – William Kristol of the Weekly Standard urged Republicans this week to “go for the kill,” as Mr. Obama noted – it would be risky to bet that Mr. Obama will fail.

Those conservative Democratic representatives holding up the legislation will have to compromise at some point. Otherwise, they will have to explain to voters in their district during midterm elections next year why they torpedoed the most important priority of their own party leader and of most Americans as well.

The White House, similarly, will be prepared to make trades to ensure that legislation of some kind or other sees the light of day.

One significant breakthrough came Wednesday, when the Blue Dogs and House energy-and-commerce-committee chairman Henry Waxman agreed that an independent panel should be given the power to set fees and make cuts.

Also in Mr. Obama’s corner are industry associations, such as the American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association, who have opposed previous reforms. Business groups are also onside, as corporations struggle to meet the ever-escalating costs of insuring workers.

And reasonable legislators of both parties know that government simply must reform a health-care system that costs almost twice as much as that provided by other industrial countries, and that is expected to soon envelop one-fifth of the American economy.

Mr. Obama took pains to remind viewers of those truths Wednesday night.

“If we do not control these costs, we will not be able to control our deficit,” he maintained. “If we do not reform health care, your premiums and out-of-pocket costs will continue to skyrocket. If we do not act, 14,000 Americans will continue to lose their health insurance every single day.

“These are the consequences of inaction. These are the stakes of the debate we’re having right now.”

His success or failure as a president is at stake as well

Near the conclusion of his press conference on Wednesday, President Obama was asked to respond to the controversial arrest of distinguished Harvard Professor Henry Louis “Skip” Gates.

Obama acknowledged to questioner Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times that Gates “is a friend, so I may be a little biased.” The President stepped lightly regarding any role race may have played in the situation, saying that he was not there so could not be certain, however he did note that racial profiling has “a long history in this country.” Obama argued that the “Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home.”

Well, I should say at the outset that Skip Gates is a friend, so I may be a little bias ed here. I don’t know all the facts. What’s been reported, though, is that the guy forgot his keys. He jimmied his way to get into the house. There was a report called into the police station that there might be a burglary taking place. so far so good. Right? I mean, if I was trying to jigger in — well, I guess this is my house now so it probably wouldn’t happen. Let’s say my old house in Chicago. here I’d get shot. But so far so good. They’re reporting, the police are doing what they should. There’s a call. They go investigate what happens. My understanding is at that point Professor Gates is already in his house. The police officer comes in. I’m sure there’s some exchange of words but my understanding is that Professor Gates then shows his I.D. to show that this is his house. And at that point he gets arrested for disorderly conduct, charges which are later dropped. Now, I don’t know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts what role race played in that, but I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry. Number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home and, number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately. And that’s just a fact.

As you know, Lynn, when I was in the state legislature in Illinois we worked on a racial profiling bill because there was indisputable evidence that blacks and hispanics were being stopped disproportionately. And that is a sign, an example of how, you know, race remains a factor in this society. That doesn’t lessen the incredible progress that has been made. I am standing here as testimony to the progress that’s been made. And yet, the fact of the matter is that, you know, this still haunts us. And even when there are honest misunderstandings, the fact that blacks and hispanics are picked up more frequently and often time for no cause cast suspicion even when there is good cause, and that’s why I think the more that we’re working with local law enforcement to improve policing techniques so that we’re eliminating potential bias, the safer everybody’s going to be.

On July 19 23:20, in 2009 the 96th session of link law big game has ended the 15th leg from the loose Tully Egypt to every Biai 207.5 kilometer difficult contests, in 2007 the link law champion, Astana motorcade’s Kang Tad wins the championship by 5 hour 3 minute 58 second result, and first time has put on the overall result yellow unlined upper garment by 63 hour 17 minute 56 second result in this big games! Armstrong obtained yesterday 9th, and has rushed to the overall result second position by 63 hour 19 minute 33 second.
This leg appearance of the mountain steep difficulty is huge, the entire journey has 4 3 level of hill climbing spots, separately in 8 kilometer, 18.5 kilometer, 54 kilometers and 74 kilometers place, 2 level of hill climbing in 135.5 kilometers place, but the difficulty biggest 1 level of hill climbing spot, is located at competition’s end point place. And has established two sprint spots in 56.5 kilometers and 181 kilometers, for the prominent mountainous region match’s characteristic, the sprint competition reduces the threshold. Before the competition starts, the contestant and the staff that elderly women who died unfortunately for the day before yesterday pays silent tribute first one minute. Local time 12.08 points (Beijing standard time 18.08 points), competition official start.
The mountainous region match often is spreads out contestant the best way, but actually became the rare more than hundred person of together mountaineering in yesterday the magnificent situation, when also had 7 kilometers to the end point, the large unit embezzled completely sub-element’s first 9 contestants, only then the Sipila gram also rode in the front not far away, but strength small and weak he is also surmounted in a flash, went is the strongest strength most direct dialog completely! In the large unit most before in the troop, we saw Armstrong, Kang Tad, Palestinian Dewilde, gram Roden, Uygur Jinsi, the size has executed Leica and Nepali Bari such overall result arranges at the first ten top contestant, but Northern peduncle Nepal and the Xin carpi in which, this crazy competition will not produce new Huang Shan yesterday without a doubt!
Kang Tad forestalls to send the strength, Andy executes Leica to follow, afterward gram Roden surpassed Armstrong, the silence very long Sasite thunder has also flushed, but Armstrong went all out with them maintains is advancing in unison, when left the end point 4 kilometers, Kang Tad was already in the lead large unit for 40 seconds, Armstrong looks like to this kind of crazy impact already had no alternative, he is surpassed unceasingly by the human, but Kang Tad has not let Andy execute Leica to pursue prevails half step, he always maintained is being away from the quite long lead, finally 1 kilometer place already the hand grasped 40 second lead, did not have any to be anxious again, he has attained finally oneInferior significance extremely significant leg champion! In other award items, Pelly assisted the peduncle to rely on yesterday’s good display, consolidated itself by 109 points to climb the first position; Hu Shuford continues by 201 points to enjoy sprints the green unlined upper garment; Danish abundant silver ingot driving team’s Andy executed Leica to obtain the leg yesterday second, an overall result leap rushed fifth, he has attained the new person mourning clothes; But the Astana motorcade relied on yesterday’s win, by 188 hour 22 minute 49 second retrieval motorcade first; Dared to fight the prize to give the rambo motorcade’s Sipila gram.
Seven session of link law champion Armstrong after the difficult 15th leg had ended, the language leaves acknowledged astonishingly, after is flung easily by Kang Tad, oneself needed to say with the eighth link law champion goodbye. 　　In the competition, Armstrong and the teammate, in 2007 the champion Kang Tad’s competition has been the absolute focal point, both sides launches for the Astana motorcade’s collar riding position has fought relative PK, but Kang Tad had proven yesterday with the decisive sprint he is the Astana motorcade most has the opportunity to win the link law championship the rider. 37 year-old Armstrong also commended that Kang Tad is “the most formidable rider”, and acknowledged that now speaking of him, the eighth link law champion already finished.
“Kang Tad with the strength demonstrated that he is the best rider, the best climber, he has won this leg with his way, needs to remove hat in salute to him.”Armstrong said that “I think after today, he had proven he is the link law match most formidable contestant, I attempt to want myself to think that I am more splendid, but I cannot achieve. Now the necessity has not wasted the time, I did have possessed me to be able to do, but I (the present) am not best.”“has many theatrical hearsays about me and Kang Tad, specially in media mouth, but after today this leg had ended, we will unite in together, with all teammate same place, my I with all one’s strength, will enable the motorcade to become a strong team.”Armstrong said. The Armstrong present overall result climbs to second once again, falls behind Kang a Tad 1 minute 37 second, the Astana motorcade also returns to the motorcade scoreboard first.
Now, Armstrong already prepared for Kang Tad to fight, “some people hoped that I can also look like 2004 to 2005 seasons such ride the line, but this was not already realistic.”Armstrong said.

The reason that Wang Zhe is Wang Zhe is because they forever have a total champion heart, took in recent years the most successful team, the spurs also non-common people. After process season playoff first run outgoing, they realized changed external appearances only very important, therefore they only then promote their troika, this looked that as soon as resembles is the spurs in drops for Duncan to wrestle, actually this is the king the teacher to stage a comeback the essential matter which does, because that total crown morale of troops never allows them to muddle along.
Certainly, this is the time which four giant runs amuck, but I still thought that under the season is the best opportunity which the spurs stage a comeback. Who will think that the spurs under not being able to calm down rate will sign Jafferson to enable own first four giants to form, this has also begun this arms race’s prologue. When the people carry on the question to spurs’ inside connection, recently they signed inside connection brave warrior Maikedaisi to dispel people’s question. Even if the present is the time which four giants run amuck, the spurs may also the energy say fully their strength is not worse than anybody.
But experiences and the frame of mind superiority lets the spurs appears compared to the match even better, may say the season is the best opportunity which they stage a comeback.
The spurs could be able 4 to win the total champion in the past’s 10 years, obviously their of strength, “troika” the lethality saw a spot. Even if on the season spurs are caught up with the god world which the odd number year wins the championship, but this is because Jinuobili the wound reimburses, Duncan fully suffered the wounded and sick puzzle, Parker is unable to do it alone the result. Because can the incomplete lineup kill west the first three spurs’ strength to be undeniable, if west the troika can advance together Lakers to be able hand in hand to run out is also a question. Is the time which runs amuck in the present four giants, also which had to dare to say their strength in “the troika” above. Much less the spurs have not been idling, they introduce Jafferson also to let their four giant forming. Not has unearned reputation certainly as entire star player Jafferson, is on season, in the stag elegant is not successful in the situation he has 19.6 point 4.6 backboard performance, arrived at on spurs like a fish in water his a yet higher goal already to be settled. At the same time, Jafferson’s defense is also may encircle may select, he has the defensive top player’s attainment very much. The offense and defense Ju Jia Jafferson’s arrival let in without doubt the spurs strength a very big stair, their four giant’s strengths might smile the arrogant entire alliance without doubt. Meanwhile, takes near for 10 year most successful teams, the spurs has the experience compared to other matches, “the troika” between coordination is handy. This is helpful in increasing four giant’s might, Jafferson may very easy integrate the team the tactical system, when other four giants are experiencing the labor pain time Jafferson already might hit handily. Jafferson integrates rapidly may help the team saliva to give birth more fighting methods, the team lethality increases imperceptibly many. But spurs’ four giants see the player who is used to the magnificent scene, specially the troika experiences for a long time the life and death, they processing are absolutely the match can not hold a candle to the winning play. Experience’s superiority is well known, specially the critical moment processing is playing matter of life and death role to the ball to the competition trend. The reason that on the season finals magic loses to Lakers is to a great extent because experiences insufficiency, several competition final time winning play processing not, when cups one hand in the other across the chest to give successfully Lakers, they also early withdrew from total champion contention, experience’s function have can be inferred.
As near for 10 year total champion winner most teams, the spurs are without doubt richer than the match experience, Celts and Lakers only then a total champion experiences, the magic even was recent years enters the finals, the calf previous time enters the finals is before the long time. In the strength equally matched situation, the spurs have the lethality obviously compared to the match.
The reason that always by the spurs which experienced and reliable is famous steadily departs from the norm carries on crazy preparing for war, is because they already saw Duncan’s athletic state slides, they want before “stone Buddha” retires from office wins the total champion again. The reason that in the season spurs the first run makes a clean sweep is not only because Jinuobili wound stops, Duncan’s athletic state slides to the fact which also does not struggle. Even if so Duncan’s performance is still the top standard, but formed them along with the present four giants also to have the qualification which attacked to the total champion. Duncan leaves his time not to be many clearly more importantly, the teammates also want to take advantage “stone Buddha” is hale and hearty when went all out a elder brother’s long-cherished wish.
May say that already did not have the team to have the spurs to the total champion hope to be so intense, certainly, spurs’ fighting spirit non-matches can compare. In the strength does not fall leeward, in the frame of mind the hold winning side, the experienced spurs “four giants” are without doubt more formidable. In “four giants” under the leadership, the spurs certainly will stage a comeback the season remount king the summit. But the magic four giants experience insufficient, Celts needs new wearing, calf’s four giants is not worth mentioning, Lakers’ four giants now seem are in the fog look at the flower, their present’s might is also obviously unable with spurs’ four giants to place on a par.

On Sunday, practice ended at 6 p.m. A few minutes later, Hammer pushed Meyer, in his wheelchair, out of the Barnett Center and into a cold South Dakota November night. A walker was placed in front of his wheelchair and Meyer stood, leaning on the chair, his right hand in a brace. A doctor told him he might have a stress fracture from the strain he has put on his wrists since he lost his leg.

But he moved the six feet to a waiting car, turned slightly and lowered himself into the passenger’s side for the ride home. Hammer folded the walker and the wheelchair and set them in the back.

On the drive home, his car approached an intersection, and Meyer acknowledged that he feels nervous now when a semitrailer comes at him from the other direction.

After the car pulled into his driveway, Meyer used the walker to get through the door of his garage and stepped onto a hydraulic handicap lift that was built in his home. He worked out for an hour — leg lifts on a table in the living room — talking about his team, fretting that the Wolves must start playing better.

There is work to be done, with his team, with his body.

Later Sunday night, he lay in his bed and directed his eyes at the ceiling, and rested the stump of his left leg on a towel — a dark towel, which Carmen uses because of the blood. His wife pulled off the sleeve covering his left leg. The triangular-shaped wound, with the flap of calf muscle and skin pulled over the front, hasn’t healed, and may not heal for months. Meyer can’t be fitted for a prosthetic leg until the wound heals and the swelling goes down.

Carmen makes note of a small white spot inside the triangle for a visitor.

“There’s the bone,” she said.

She sprayed the wound with antiseptic and used a Q-tip to clean a fold of skin.

“There’s no blood here,” she reported to her husband, a good sign.

But Meyer didn’t want to look. He pinched the bridge of his nose with his fingers and squinted. He had basketball practice in eight hours, and on Tuesday night the first game of the regular season, against Mount Marty College.

He is healing, day by day, and there is work to be done.

It’s the next best action.
